California-licensed dental professionals, including dentists and dental hygienists, with licenses expiring this year now have a little extra time to file their renewal requirements.

They are now due Feb. 27, 2021.

In August, the Department of Consumer Affairs decided to rescind two previous extensions that were granted earlier in the year.

This order allows licensees to adhere to the newest order when completing continuing education courses and taking the necessary examinations as required by the license renewal process.

Renewal fees and renewal applications, however, are still due on their respective due dates.

You can read the DCA waiver for more information here.

The waivers were needed because of the impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Dental professionals faced cancellations of needed in-person courses and testing.

The extensions provide much-needed relief because the previous deadlines were just around the corner.

The California Dental Association advocated for the changes and said it will pursue further measures should the pandemic continue to adversely affect licensees the ability to fulfill their requirements.
